Zinc is a key mineral used by cells to metabolise nutrients. Immune function, DNA and protein production are all linked closely to zinc levels in the body. It’s particularly important for men because of its role in maintaining prostate health, testosterone levels and overall sexual health. But since our bodies don’t produce zinc, a daily intake is recommended to ensure healthy levels of this critical mineral.
Recent studies have been conducted which suggests a link between low levels of zinc and erectile dysfunction. The latest scientific research indicates that a diet low in zinc drastically affects testosterone levels, causing androgen receptors to become ineffective [14].
As well as directly boosting T levels, adding zinc to the diet has also been found to cause a huge decrease in aromatisation. This is the process by which testosterone quickly converts to the female hormone estrogen [15].
